According to Jewish tradition it was believed that Ezra wrote both 1 & 2 Chronicles, as well as the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. This is believed because the book of Ezra immediately begins where 2 Chronicles concludes (2 Ch 36:22,23; Er 1:1-3). However, some have believed that someone else wrote the Chronicles because of the difference between the wording of the Chronicles and the book of Ezra. This argument must always be questioned, however, because of the manner by which the Holy Spirit allowed the authors of the Bible books to use their own writing styles in the composition of the books and letters. If a writer wrote at different times in his life, we would expect that his style of writing would change throughout the years. We would thus expect a different style of writing between two books by the same author when a great amount of time had transpired between the writing of the books. The difference in writing style only illustrates that the Holy Spirit allowed such in His work of inspiration.
The subject matter of the Chronicles is about the events in the history of Israel to the end of their captivity in Babylon and the restoration that was initiated by the Medo-Persian king, Cyrus (See 2 Ch 36:22,23). In view of the comments made in 2 Chronicles 35:25, it appears that the Chronicles would have been written after the time of Jeremiah who wrote Lamentations. Most Bible students place the writing of the Chronicles sometime in the latter part of the 5th century B.C. The books are placed at this late date to remind Israel of her former kings.
In our Bibles today we have 1 & 2 Chronicles
as two books. The division of the one original
book into two was made with the publication of
the Septuagint. The name “Chronicles” comes
from Jerome who translated the Hebrew title
divre hayyamin in 1 Chronicles 27:24 (“the
account of the chronicles of King David”) with
the Latin word Chronicorum.
It was believed by the Jews that Ezra wrote
the Chronicles, and then the books of Ezra
and Nehemiah, in order to provide a historical
transition from the Babylonian exile of Israel
in 586 B.C. to the return of the remnant to
Palestine after the Babylonian captivity. The
audience of the Chronicles was the returned
remnant who resided in Palestine. They
needed reassurance for two reasons: (1) God
had not terminated His purpose to use Israel
in order to bring the Messiah into the world
through David’s lineage. (2) The returned
exiles also needed to be reassured that God’s
covenant with Israel was still valid, and thus He
was continuing His plan to restore the throne of
David for the Messiah who was yet to come.
1 Chronicles, therefore, focuses on the
dynasty of David in view of the fact that God
continued to establish the throne of David upon
which He would set a King who would reign
forever (17:1-27). This theme is emphasized
in 1 Chronicles by the writer’s focus on the
genealogy of David and the tribes of Judah
and Benjamin (1:1 – 9:44). Emphasis is also
placed on David’s desire to build the temple as
the permanent resting place of the ark of the
covenant (See 15:1 – 16:3). The writer focuses
on David’s decision to build the temple in
Jerusalem (21:18 – 22:1), to stockpile materials
for the construction of the temple (22:2-5), and
to organize the priests and Levites for temple
ministry (23:2 – 26:32). After he had made
preparations for the construction of the temple
before his death, David charged his son,
Solomon, concerning the construction (22:6-
16; 28:9,10). Since the temple was the dream
of David, he wanted to secure its construction
in the minds of the leaders of Israel that it be
built after his death.
1 & 2 Samuel and 1 & 2 Kings cover the
history of Israel with the purpose of focusing on
the reason for the end of the northern kingdom
of Israel because of her apostasy. The history
of both the northern and southern kingdoms
are thus recorded for the posterity of Israel
in order to emphasize why God allowed the
Jews to be taken into Assyrian and Babylonian
captivity. The Chronicles were written from
the perspective of the Levites in order that the
ceremonial worship of Israel be restored with the rebuilding of the temple and the walls of
Jerusalem. Because of the prominence of
the tribe of Judah, which included Benjamin,
1 Chronicles focuses on the faithfulness of
the Jews who came from these two tribes.
Therefore, the writer is primarily concerned with
the history of the southern kingdom of Israel.
It is important that Bible students understand
that the Chronicles contain omissions and
gaps in the genealogies. Many names are
spelled differently than they are in other books.
The reason for this is that languages and
pronunciation of words continually change.
This change is reflected in the different ways
Hebrew names were spelled and pronounced
at the time each Bible book was written. The
Bible student, therefore, must not be frustrated
with the different spelling of the same name as
it is recorded in the Kings and Chronicles. We
must not forget that the Kings and Chronicles
were written concerning Israelite history that
took place over centuries.
Nothing is said of the northern kingdom in 2
Chronicles simply because Jeroboam had led
the northern tribes after the sin of idolatry that
detoured them from worshiping the one true
and living God. Jeroboam’s altars in Bethel and
Dan diverted the minds of the northern tribes
away from focusing on God. For this reason,
1 Chronicles focuses on the kings and events
that relate to the southern kingdom, specifically
the tribe of Judah. 2 Chronicles covers the
history of both 1 & 2 Kings.
In the composition of the Chronicles, the
writer relies on the information that is presented
by nine prophets: Samuel (1 Ch 29:29), Nathan
(1 Ch 29:29), Gad (1 Ch 29:29), Ahijah (2 Ch
9:29), Shemaiah ( 2 Ch 12:15), Iddo ( 2 Ch
12:15), Jehu (2 Ch 20:34), Hozai (2 Ch 33:19)
and Isaiah (2 Ch 26:22; 32:32). Reference is
also made to the Jewish historical books as the
chronicle of the kings of Judah and Israel, which
books are no longer in existence. These books
were were never a part of the canon of Jewish
Scripture (See 1 Ch 9:1; 2 Ch 27:7; 33:18;
36:8). They were not accepted by the Jews
inspired books, though they were considered
valuable by many Jews in reference to the
history of Israel.

19 Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle. Their fathers were keepers of the entrance of the army of the LORD.
20 jPhinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in the past. The LORD was with him.
21 kZechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper of the door of the tabernacle of assembly.
22 All gatekeepers were 212, lenrolled by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer ordained in their office.
23 They and their children had oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, the house of the tabernacle as guards.
24 Gatekeepers were stationed on four sides: east, west, north, and south.
25 Their brethren in villages came after seven days periodically with them.
26 The four chief gatekeepers were in office over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.
27 They lodged around the house of God, responsible for opening it every morning.
28 Some had charge of ministering vessels, bringing them in and out by count,

1 ¶ Now the aPhilistines fought against Israel. The men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
2 The Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. They slew Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3 The battle went sorely against Saul, and the archers hit him; he was wounded by the archers.
4 Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was very afraid. So Saul took a sword and fell on it.
5 When his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword and died.
6 So Saul died, his three sons, and all his house died together.
7 When all the men of Israel in the valley saw that they had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled. The Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 ¶ On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9 They stripped him, took his head and armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to carry tidings to their idols and people.
10 bThey put his armor in the house of their gods and fastened his head on the house of Dagon.
11 ¶ When all Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 all the cvaliant men arose, took away the body of Saul and his sons, and brought them to dJabesh. They buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh and fasted seven days.
13 ¶ Saul died for his transgression against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD ethat he did not keep, and also because he fconsulted a medium for guidance.
14 He did not inquire of the LORD; therefore He slew him and gturned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

1 ¶ Then aall Israel gathered themselves to David at Hebron, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.”
2 “Even in the past when Saul was king, you led out and brought in Israel. And the LORD your bGod said to you, ‘You will cfeed My people Israel and you will be ruler over My people Israel.’”
3 Therefore, all the elders of Israel came to Hebron to the king. David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD. And dthey anointed David king over Israel according to the word of the LORD by eSamuel.
4 ¶ Then David and all Israel fwent to Jerusalem, that is Jebus, gwhere the Jebusites were dwelling.
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You will not come here.” Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.
6 David said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first will be chief and captain.” Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first and became chief.
7 David dwelt in the stronghold. Therefore, they called it the city of David.
8 He built the city all around, from Millo to the surrounding areas. Joab repaired the rest of the city.
9 David became greater and greater because the LORD of hosts was with ihim.
10 ¶ jThese are the chief mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king according to the kword of the LORD.
11 Jashobeam, a Hachmonite, the mchief of the captains, lifted up his spear against three hundred who were slain by him at one time.
12 ¶ After him was Eleazar the son of nDodo, the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men.
13 He was with David at Pasdammim, where the Philistines gathered to battle on a parcel of ground full of barley. The people fled from before the Philistines,
14 but they set themselves in the middle of that parcel and delivered it, and slew the Philistines. The LORD saved them by a great deliverance.
15 ¶ Now three of the thirty captains owent down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam. The Philistines camped pin the valley of Rephaim.
16 David was then in the stronghold, and the Philistines’ garrison was at Bethlehem.
17 David said, “Oh that one would give me a drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem at the gate!”
18 The three broke through the Philistine army, drew water from the well of Bethlehem, and brought it to David. He would not drink, but poured it out to the LORD.
19 He said, “Be it far from me to drink the blood of these men who risked their lives to bring it.” These things did the three mighty men.
20 ¶ qAbishai, brother of Joab, was chief of the three for lifting up his spear against three hundred. He gained a name among the three.
21 rOf the three, he was more honorable than the other two, being their captain, yet he did not attain to the first three.
22 Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, a valiant man of Kabzeel, sslew two lionlike men of Moab, and also a lion in a pit on a snowy day.
23 He slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high, who had a spear like a weaver’s beam. He went down to him with a staff, plucked the spear from his hand, and slew him with it.
24 These acts of Benaiah gained him a name among the three mighty men.
25 He was honorable among the thirty, but did not attain to the first three. David set him over his guard.
26 ¶ Also the valiant men of the armies were Asahel, brother of Joab; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
27 Shammoth the Harorite; uHelez the Pelonite,
28 vIra the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, wAbiezer the Antothite,

32 Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite,
33 Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite,
34 sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shage the Hararite,

1 ¶ Now athese are those who came to David at bZiklag while he was restricted because of Saul the son of Kish. They were among the mighty men, helpers of the war.
2 They were armed with bows and could use both the right hand and the cleft in hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow. They were Saul’s relatives of Benjamin.
3 The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite, Jeziel and Pelet the sons of Azmaveth, Berachah and Jehu the Antothite,
4 Ismaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty, and Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, and Josabad the Gederathite,

6 Elkanah, Jessiah, Azareel, Joezer, Jashobeam the Korhites,
7 and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
8 ¶ From the Gadites came mighty men of war fit for battle, who could handle shield and spear, whose faces were like lions, and were as dswift as gazelles on the mountains.
9 Ezer was the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
13 Jeremiah the tenth, Machbanai the eleventh. These were sons of Gad, captains of the army. One of the least was over one hundred and the greatest over a ethousand.
14 They went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its fbanks, and put to flight all those of the valleys, both east and west.
16 ¶ Then some of the children of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold to David.
17 David met them and said, “If you come peaceably to help me, my heart will be united with you. But if you come to betray me, may God of our fathers look on it and decide.”
18 The Spirit came on gAmasai, chief of the captains. He said, “We are yours, David, on your side, son of Jesse. Peace to you and your helpers, for your God helps you.” David received them and made them captains of the band.
19 ¶ hDefected to David from Manasseh when he was going with the Philistines against Saul, but they did not help the Philistines, for their lords sent David away, saying, i“He will defect to Saul.”
20 As he went to Ziklag, defected to him from Manasseh: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zilthai, captains of thousands.
21 They helped David against the jband of raiders; they were mighty men of valor and captains in the army.
22 Men came to David day by day to help him, until it became a great army, jlike the army of God.
23 ¶ These are the numbers of heads of those armed for war, who lcame to David at mHebron, to nturn Saul’s kingdom to him oaccording to the word of the LORD.
24 Judah who bore shield and spear, 6,800;
25 Simeon, mighty men of valor, 7,100;
26 Levi, 4,600;
27 Aaronites led by Jehoiada, 3,700;
28 pZadok, young man mighty of valor, with twenty-two captains;
29 Benjamin, kinsmen of Saul, 3,000;
30 Ephraim, 20,800, famous throughout the house of their fathers;
31 half tribe of Manasseh, 18,000, designated by name to make David king;
32 Issachar, men rwith understanding of the times, 200 heads, with all brethren under command;
33 Zebulun, experts in war, 50,000 (not of an sundivided heart);
34 Naphtali, 1,000 captains, 37,000 with shield and spear;
35 Danites, experts in war, 28,600;
36 Asher, experts in war, 40,000;
37 Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh beyond the Jordan, 120,000.
38 ¶ All these men of war came with a perfect heart to Hebron to make David king over all Israel, and the rest of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
39 They were with David three days, eating and drinking, for their brethren had made preparations.
40 Those near them, even Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen, with meat, meal, cakes of figs, raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep abundantly; there was joy in Israel.

1 ¶ And David consulted with the acaptains of thousands and hundreds and with every leader.
2 Then David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is from the LORD our God, let us send to our brethren everywhere who are bleft in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites in their cities and pasture lands, so that they may gather themselves to us.”
3 “And let us bring again the ark of our God to us, cfor we did not seek it in the days of Saul.”
4 And all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
5 ¶ So dDavid gathered all Israel together from eShihor of Egypt even to the entrance of Hemath, to bring the ark of God ffrom Kirjath Jearim.
6 David and all Israel went up to gBaalah, that is, Kirjath Jearim in Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD hwho dwells between the cherubims, that is called by the Name.
7 They carried the ark of God in a inew cart out of the jhouse of Abinadab. Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.
8 kDavid and all Israel played before God with all their might, with singing, harps, psalteries, timbrels, cymbals, and trumpets.
9 ¶ When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.
10 The anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and He struck him lbecause he put out his hand to the ark. There he mdied before God.
11 David was displeased because the LORD had burst out upon Uzza. Therefore, that place is called Perezuzza to this day.
12 David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How will I bring the ark of God home to me?”
13 ¶ So David did not bring the ark home to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.
14 nThe ark of God remained with the family of Obededom in his house three months. The LORD blessed the ohouse of Obededom and all that he had.

2 David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was blifted up on high because of His people Israel.
3 Then David took more wives at Jerusalem. And David begot more sons and daughters.

8 ¶ Now when the Philistines heard that dDavid was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And when David heard this he went out against them.
9 The Philistines came and spread themselves in the evalley of Rephaim.
10 Then David finquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You deliver them into my hand?” The LORD said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.”
11 They came up to Baal Perazim, and David struck them there. Then David said, “God has broken in on my enemies by my hand like the breaking forth of waters.” Therefore, they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
12 When they had abandoned their gods there, David gave an order and they were burned with fire.
13 ¶ gThen the Philistines again made a raid on the valley.
14 Therefore, David inquired again of God. And God said to him, “Do not go up after them. Turn away from them and hcome upon them in front of the mulberry trees.
15 “It will be when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you will go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”
16 David therefore did as God commanded him. They struck the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

1 ¶ Now David made for himself houses in the city of David and prepared a place for the ark of God. And ahe pitched a tent for it.
2 Then David said, “No one should carry the bark of God but the Levites. For the cLORD chose them to carry the ark of God and to minister to Him forever.
3 So David dgathered all Israel together to Jerusalem in order to bring up the ark of the LORD to its place that he had prepared for it.
4 And David assembled the children of Aaron and the Levites:
5 of the sons of Kohas, Uriel the chief, and 120 of his brethren;
6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and 220 of his brethren;
7 of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and 130 of his brethren;
8 of the sons of eElizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and 200 of his brethren;
9 of the sons of fHebron, Eliel the chief, and 80 of his brethren;
10 of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and 112 of his brethren.
11 Then David called for gZadok and hAbiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah and Joel, Shemaiah and Eliel and Amminadab.
12 And he said to them, “You are the chief of the fathers of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, both you and your brethren so that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel to the place that I have prepared for it.
13 i“Because you did not carry it at the first, the jLORD our God burst out upon us, for we did not consult Him according to the proper order.”
14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.
15 The children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as kMoses commanded according to the word of the LORD.
16 ¶ Then David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, by lifting up the voice with resounding joy.
17 So the Levites appointed lHeman the son of Joel, and of his brethren, mAsaph the son of Berechiah, and of the sons of Merari their brethren, nEthan the son of Kushaiah,
18 and with them their brethren of the second rank, Zechariah, Ben and Jaaziel and Shemiramoth and Jehiel and Unni, Eliab and Benaiah and Maaseiah and Mattithiah and Elipheleh and Mikneiah and Obededom and Jeiel the gatekeepers.
19 So the singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of bronze,
20 and Zechariah and Aziel and Shemiramoth and Jehiel and Unni and Eliab and Maaseiah and Benaiah with psalteries according to oAlamoth,
21 and Mattithiah and Elipheleh and Mikneiah and Obededom and Jeiel and Azaziah with harps on the pSheminith.
22 And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was in charge of the singing. He instructed concerning singing because he was skillful.
23 And Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
24 And Shebaniah and Jehoshaphat and Nethaneel and Amasai and Zechariah and Benaiah and Eliezer, the priests, qblew with the trumpets before the ark of God. And rObededom and Jehiah were gatekeepers for the ark.
25 ¶ So sDavid and the elders of Israel and the captains over thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obededom with joy.
26 Now it came to pass when God helped the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bulls and seven rams.
27 And David was clothed with a robe of tfine linen, as all the Levites who bore the ark and the singers and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers. David also had on him an ephod of linen.
28 Thus uall Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the ram’s horn and with trumpets and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.
29 ¶ Now it came to pass vas the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David dancing and playing. And she despised him in her heart.

19 when you were but few, even a lfew, and foreigners in it.
20 And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people,
21 He permitted no man to do them wrong. Yes, He mreproved kings for their sakes,
22 saying, n‘Do not touch My anointed, and do not harm My prophets.’
23 ¶ o“Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Show forth from day to day His salvation.
24 Declare His glory among the heathen, His marvellous works among all nations.
25 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised. He also is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods pof the people are idols. But the LORD made the heavens.
27 Glory and honor are in His presence. Strength and gladness are in His place.
28 Give to the LORD, you kindreds of the people. Give to the LORD glory and strength.
29 Give to the LORD the glory due to His name. Bring an offering and come before Him. Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
30 Fear before Him, all the earth. The world also will be stable so that it be not moved.
31 Let the heavens be glad and let the earth rejoice. And let men say among the nations, ‘The LORD reigns.’
32 Let the sea roar, and all it contains. Let the fields rejoice and all that is in them.
33 Then will the qtrees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD because rHe comes to judge the earth.
34 sO give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever.
35 tAnd say, ‘Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together. And deliver us from the nations so that we may give thanks to Your holy name and glory in Your praise.’
36 u“Blessed is the LORD God of Israel forever and ever.” And all vthe people said, “Amen,” and praised the LORD.
37 ¶ So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD wAsaph and his associates, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work xrequired,
38 and yObededom with his sixty-eight associates, Obededom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be gatekeepers.
39 And He left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests zbefore the tabernacle of the LORD aat the high place that was at Gibeon,
40 to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of the burnt offering continually bmorning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD that He commanded Israel.
41 And with them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, cbecause His mercy endures forever.
42 And with them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those who should make a sound with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were to be at the gate.
43 dAnd all the people departed, each to his house. And David returned to bless his house.

1 ¶ Now ait came to pass as David sat in his house that he said to Nathan the prophet, “Lo, I dwell in a house of cedars but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remains under curtains.”
2 Then Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”
3 Now it came to pass the same night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
4 “Go and tell David My servant, ‘Thus says the LORD, “You will bnot build Me a house to dwell in,
5 for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but have gone from tent to tent and from one tabernacle to another.
6 Wherever I have walked with all Israel, have I spoken a word to any of the judges of Israel whom I commanded to feed My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedars?’”’
7 “Now therefore thus will you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of armies, “I took you cfrom the sheepfold, even from following the sheep so that you should be ruler over My people Israel.
8 And I have been with you wherever you have walked. And I have cut off all your enemies from before you and have made you a name like the name of the great men who are on the earth.
9 Also I will ordain a place for My people Israel, and will dplant them. And they will dwell in their place and will be moved no more, nor will the children of wickedness waste them anymore as in the beginning,
10 since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. Furthermore, I tell you that the LORD will build a house for you.
11 Now it will come to pass ewhen your days have ended when you must go to be with your fathers, that I will raise up your fseed after you, who will be of your sons. And I will establish his kingdom.
12 gHe will build Me a house and I will establish his throne forever.
13 hI will be his father and he will be My son. And I will not take My mercy away from him ias I took it from him who was before you.
14 But jI will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever. And his throne will be established forever.”’”
15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.
16 ¶ kAnd David the king came and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O LORD God? And what is my house that You have brought me this far?
17 And yet this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, for You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have regarded me according to the rank of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
18 What can David speak more to You for the honor of Your servant? For You know Your servant.
19 O LORD, for Your servant’s sake and according to Your own heart You have done all this greatness in making known all these great things.
20 O LORD, there is none like You, nor is there any God beside You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
21 lAnd what one nation on the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be His own people, to make You a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before Your people whom You have redeemed out of Egypt?
22 For Your people Israel You made Your own people forever, and You, LORD, became their God.
23 ¶ Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and do as You have said.
24 Let it even be established so that Your name may be magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of armies is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel. And let the house of David Your servant be established before You.’
25 For You, O my God, have told Your servant that You will build him a house. Therefore, Your servant has found it in his heart to pray before You.
26 And now, LORD, You are God, and have promised this goodness to Your servant.
27 Now therefore let it please You to bless the house of Your servant so that it may be before You. For You, O LORD, have blessed and it is blessed forever.”

1 ¶ Now after this ait came to pass that David attacked the Philistines and subdued them. And he took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.
2 He also attacked bMoab. And the Moabites became David’s cservants and brought tribute.
3 ¶ And dDavid attacked Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the River Euphrates.
4 Then David took from him 1,000 chariots and 7,000 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved enough of them for 100 chariots.
5 ¶ And when the eSyrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew 22,000 men of the Syrians.
6 Then David put garrisons among the Syrians of Damascus, and the Syrians became David’s servants and brought tribute. Thus the LORD preserved David wherever he went.
7 Then David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 Likewise from Tibhas and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, David brought much fbronze by which gSolomon made the bronze sea and the pillars and the vessels of bronze.
9 ¶ Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the army of Hadarezer king of Zobah,
10 he sent Hadoram his son to King David, to inquire of his welfare and to congratulate him because he had fought against Hadarezer and smote him because Hadarezer had fought with Tou. And he brought with him all kinds of hvessels of gold and silver and bronze.
11 Them also King David dedicated to the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations, from Edom and from Moab and from the ichildren of Ammon and from the jPhilistines and from kAmalek.
12 ¶ Furthermore, lAbishai the son of Zeruiah slew m18,000 of the Edomites in the valley of salt.
13 nAnd he put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the LORD preserved David wherever he went.
14 ¶ So David reigned over all Israel and executed judgment and justice among all his people.
15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder.
16 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests. And Shavsha was the scribe.
17 And oBenaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites. And the sons of David were chief ministers at the king’s side.

1 ¶ aNow it came to pass after this that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died and his son reigned in his place.
2 And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash because his father showed kindness to me.” And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him.
3 But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David is honoring your father in that he has sent comforters to you? Have not his servants come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?”
4 Therefore, Hanun took David’s servants and shaved them. And he cut off their garments in the middle close bby their buttocks and sent them away.
5 Then certain persons went and told David about the men. And he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly humiliated. And the king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards are grown and then return.”
6 ¶ Now when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves repulsive to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent 1,000 talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia and out of Arammaacah and cout of Zobah.
7 So they hired 32,000 chariots and the king of Maachah and his people, who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities and came to battle.
8 Then when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.
9 And the children of Ammon came out and put the battle in array before the gate of the city. And the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.
10 ¶ Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice men of Israel and put them in array against the Syrians.
11 And the rest of the people he delivered to the hand of Abishai his brother. And they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
12 And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you will help me. But if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.
13 “Be of good courage and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people and for the cities of our God. And let the LORD do what is good in His sight.”
14 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle. But they fled before him.
15 Now when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
16 ¶ Now when the Syrians saw that they were defeated before Israel, they sent messengers and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River. And Shophach the captain of the army of Hadarezer went before them.
17 When it was told David, he gathered all Israel and passed over the Jordan. And he came on them and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
18 But the Syrians fled before Israel. And David slew of the Syrians 7,000 men who fought in chariots and 40,000 footmen. And he killed Shophach the captain of the army.
19 Now when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with David and became his servants. And the Syrians were not willing to help the people of Ammon anymore.

1 ¶ aNow it came to pass that after the year had expired, at the time when kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army and wasted the country of the children of Ammon. Then he came and besieged Rabbah. But bDavid stayed at Jerusalem. And cJoab struck Rabbah and destroyed it.
2 Then David dtook the crown of their king from off his head and found it to weigh a talent of gold. And there were precious stones in it. And it was set on David’s head. And he brought also a great deal of spoil out of the city.
3 Then he brought out the people who were in it and put them to work with saws and with harrows of iron and with axes. Even so David did thus with all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
4 ¶ Now it came to pass after this that there earose war at Gezer with the Philistines. At that time fSibbechai the Hushasite slew Sippai who was from the children of the giant. And they were subdued.
5 Then there was war again with the Philistines. And Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear shaft was like a weaver’s gbeam.
6 And yet again hthere was war at Gath where there was a man of great stature whose fingers and toes were twenty-four, six on each hand and six on each foot. And he also was the son of the giant.
7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David’s brother, slew him.
8 These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

1 ¶ Then aSatan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel.
2 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, “Go. Number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan, and bbring the number of them to me so that I may know it.”
3 But Joab answered, “The LORD makes His people a hundred times more than they are. But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? Why then does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?”
4 Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore, Joab departed and went throughout all Israel and then came to Jerusalem.
5 Then Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to David. And all those of Israel were 1,100,000 men who drew the sword. And Judah was 470,000 men who drew the sword.
6 cBut he did not number Levi and Benjamin among them, for the king’s word was abhorrent to Joab.
7 Now God was displeased with this thing. Therefore, He struck Israel.
8 Then David said to God, d“I have sinned greatly because I have done this thing. eBut now, I beseech You, do away with the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly.”
9 ¶ Then the LORD spoke to Gad, David’s fseer, saying,
10 “Go and tell David, gsaying, ‘Thus says the LORD, “I offer you three things. Choose for yourself one of them which I will do to you.”’”
11 So Gad came to David and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Choose for yourself
12 heither three years’ famine, or three months to be destroyed before your enemies, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days of the sword of the LORD, even the plague in the land and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the borders of Israel.’ Now therefore advise yourself what word I will bring again to Him who sent me.”
13 Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let me fall now into the hand of the LORD, for great are His imercies. But do not let me fall into the hand of man.”
14 ¶ So the LORD sent ja plague on Israel, and there fell of Israel 70,000 men.
15 Then God sent an kangel to Jerusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, the LORD lrestrained from the disaster. And He said to the angel who destroyed, “It is enough, restrain now your hand.” And the angel of the LORD stood by the mthreshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Then David lifted up his eyes and nsaw the angel of the LORD standing between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel who were clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
17 And David said to God, “Is it not I who commanded the people to be numbered? Even I it is who have sinned and done evil indeed. But as for othese sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I beg You, O LORD my God, be on me and on my father’s house, but not on Your people that they should be plagued.”
18 ¶ Then the pangel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David that David should go up and set up an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 And David went up at the saying of Gad that he spoke in the name of the LORD.
20 And Ornan turned back and saw the angel. And his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 Now as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David. And he went out of the threshing floor and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the place of this threshing floor so that I may build an altar on it to the LORD. You will grant it to me for the full price so that the plague may be restrained from the people.”
23 Then Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes. Lo, I give you the oxen also for burnt offerings and the threshing instruments for wood and the wheat for the grain offering. I give it all.”
24 And King David said to Ornan, “No. But I will surely buy it for the full price. For I will not take for the LORD what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.”
25 So qDavid gave to Ornan for the place 600 shekels of gold by weight.
26 Then David built there an altar to the LORD. And he offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on the LORD. And rHe answered him from heaven by fire on the altar of burnt offering.
27 Then the LORD commanded the angel, and he put up his sword again into its sheath.
28 ¶ At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he sacrificed there.
29 sFor the tabernacle of the LORD that Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at tGibeon.
30But David could not go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.

7 And David said to Solomon, “My son, as for me, git was in my mind to build a house hto the name of the LORD my God.

1 ¶ So when David was old and full of days he made aSolomon his son king over Israel.

3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of bthirty years and upward. And the number of individual males was 38,000.
4 Of these, 24,000 were to coversee the work of the house of the LORD. And 6,000 were dofficers and judges.
5 Furthermore, 4,000 were gatekeepers and 4,000 epraised the LORD with the instruments fthat David made for giving praise.
6 And gDavid divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
7 ¶ Of the hGershonites were Laadan and Shimei.
8 The sons of Laadan were Jehiel the first and Zetham and Joel, three.
9 The sons of Shimei were Shelomith and Haziel and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers of Laadan.
10 And the sons of Shimei were Jahas, Zina and Jeush and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11 And Jahas was the first and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, therefore they were in one accounting, according to their father’s house.
12 ¶ iThe sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel, four.
13 The sons of jAmram were Aaron and Moses. And kAaron was separated so that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons forever, lto burn incense before the LORD, mto minister to Him and nto bless in His name forever.
14 Now concerning Moses the man of God, ohis sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
15 pThe sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.
16 Of the sons of Gershom, qShebuel was the first.
17 And the sons of Eliezer were rRehabiah the first. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were many.
18 Of the son of Izhar was sShelomith the first.
19 tOf the sons of Hebron were Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20 Of the sons of Uzziel were Micah the first and Jesiah the second.
21 ¶ uThe sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and vKish.
22 And Eleazar died and had no sons, but daughters. And their relatives, the sons of Kish, xtook them.
23 yThe sons of Mushi were Mahli and Eder and Jeremoth, three.
24 ¶ These were the sons of zLevi after the house of their fathers, even the chief of the fathers as they were counted by number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of the LORD from the age of atwenty years and upward.
25 For David said, “The LORD God of Israel bhas given peace to His people so that they may dwell in Jerusalem forever.
26 “And also to the Levites, they will no longer ccarry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for its service.”
27 For by the dlast words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above.
28 For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD in the courts and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
29 both for the eshowbread and for the ffine flour for grain offerings and for the gunleavened cakes, and for hwhat is baked in the pan, and for what is fried, and for all kinds of imeasure and size;

1 ¶ Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The asons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
2 But bNadab and Abihu died before their father and had no children. Therefore, Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest’s office.
3 And David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and cAhimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their offices for their ministry.
4 And there were more chief men found among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar, and thus they were divided. Among the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers.
5 Thus they were divided by lot, the one as the other. For the governors of the sanctuary and governors of the house of God were from the sons of Eleazar and from the sons of Ithamar.
6 And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, recorded them in the presence of the king and the princes and Zadok the priest and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and in the presence of the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, one principal household taken for Eleazar and one taken for Ithamar.
7 ¶ Now the first lot came out for Jehoiarib, the second for Jedaiah,
8 the third for Harim, the fourth for Seorim,
9 the fifth for Malchijah, the sixth for Mijamin,
10 the seventh for Hakkoz, the eighth for dAbijah,
11 the ninth for Jeshuah, the tenth for Shecaniah,
12 the eleventh for Eliashib, the twelfth for Jakim,
13 the thirteenth for Huppah, the fourteenth for Jeshebeab,
14 the fifteenth for Bilgah, the sixteenth for Immer,
15 the seventeenth for Hezir, the eighteenth for Aphses,
16 the nineteenth for Pethahiah, the twentieth for Jehezekel,
17 the twenty-first for Jachin, the twenty-second for Gamul,
18 the twenty-third for Delaiah, the twenty-fourth for Maaziah.
19 These were the offices of those in their service eto come into the house of the LORD, according to the ordinance under Aaron their father as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
20 ¶ And the rest of the sons of Levi were these: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah.
21 Concerning fRehabiah: of the sons of Rehabiah, the first was Isshiah;
22 of the Izharites, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahas.
23 And the sons of gHebron, Jeriah was the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.
24 The son of Uzziel was Michah; of the sons of Michah, Shamir.
25 The brother of Michah was Isshiah; of the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah.
26 hThe sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi; the son of Jaaziah, Beno.
27 The sons of Merari by Jaaziah were Beno and Shoham and Zaccur and Ibri.
28 Of Mahli came Eleazar, iwho had no sons.
29 Concerning Kish: the son of Kish was Jerahmeel.
30 The jsons also of Mushi were Mahli and Eder and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after the house of their fathers.
31 These also cast lots just as their brothers the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king and Zadok and Ahimelech and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers just as their younger brothers.

1 ¶ Furthermore, David and the captains of the army separated to the service of the sons of aAsaph and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries and with cymbals. And the number of the workmen according to their service was:
2 Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur and Joseph and Nethaniah and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph who prophesied according to the order of the king.
3 Of bJeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun, Gedaliah and Zeri and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun who prophesied in giving thanks and praising the LORD.
4 Of Heman: the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir and Mahazioth.
5 All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the chorn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
6 All these were under the hands of their father for music in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries and dharps, for the service of the house of God according eto the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman.
7 So the fnumber of them with their brethren who were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all who were skilled, was 288.
8 And they cast lots for their duties, the small as well as the great, the gteacher as well as the student.
9 ¶ Now the first lot came out for Asaph to Joseph, the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and sons were twelve;

1 ¶ Concerning the divisions of the gatekeepers: of the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of aKore, of the sons of Asaph.
2 And the sons of Meshelemiah were bZechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,

4 Furthermore, the sons of cObededom were Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth and Nethaneel the fifth,

7 The sons of Shemaiah: Othni and Rephael and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men, Elihu and Semachiah.
8 All these of the sons of Obededom: they and their sons and their brethren, dable men for strength for the service, were sixty-two from Obededom.
9 And Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, eighteen strong men.
10 Also eHosah, of the children of Merari, had a son, Simri the chief (though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief),
11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth. All these sons and relatives of Hosah were thirteen.
12 ¶ Among these were the divisions of the gatekeepers, even among the chief men were given duties like their relatives to minister in the house of the LORD.
13 And they fcast lots, the small as well as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.
14 And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots. And his lot came out northward.
15 To Obededom it fell southward, and to his sons the storehouse.
16 To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came out westward, with the Shallecheth Gate by the gascending highway. Guard corresponded to guard.

21 As concerning the sons of Laadan, the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli.
22 The sons of Jehieli: Zetham, and Joel his brother, who were over the treasuries of the house of the LORD.
23 As for the jAmramites and the Izharites, the Hebronites and the Uzzielites;
24 and kShebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was officer of the treasuries.
25 And his relatives by Eliezer were Rehabiah his son and Jeshaiah his son and Joram his son and Zichri his son and lShelomith his son.
26 This Shelomith and his relatives were over all the treasuries of the dedicated things mthat David the king and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the army, had dedicated.
27 Out of the spoils won in battles they dedicated to maintain the house of the LORD.
28 And all that Samuel the nseer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah had dedicated, and whoever had dedicated anything, it was under the hand of Shelomith and his relatives.
29 ¶ Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons owere officers and judges over Israel outside Jerusalem.
30 And of the Hebronites, qHashabiah and his relatives, men of valor, 1,700, who were officers among those of Israel on this side of the Jordan westward in all the business of the LORD and in the service of the king.
31 Among the Hebronites was rJerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought, and there were found among them mighty men of valor sat Jazer of Gilead.
32 And his brethren, men of valor, were 2,700 chief fathers, whom King David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God and the taffairs of the king.

1 ¶ And David assembled at Jerusalem all the aprinces of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the bcaptains of the companies that ministered to the king by division, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the cstewards over all the property and possession of the king and of his sons, with the officers, and with the dmighty men, and with all the valiant men.
2 Then David the king stood up on his feet and said, “Hear me, my brethren and my people. As for me, eI had in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and for the ffootstool of our God. And I had made ready for the building.
3 “But God said to me, g‘You will not build a house for My name because you have been a man of war and have shed hblood.’
4 “However, the LORD God of Israel ichose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For He has chosen jJudah to be the ruler, and of the house of Judah, the khouse of my father. And lamong the sons of my father He favored me to make me king over all Israel.
5 m“And of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons), nHe has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
6 “And He said to me, o‘Solomon your son will build My house and My courts. For I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be His father.
7 ‘Furthermore, I will establish his kingdom forever pif he continues to do My commandments and My judgments, as it is this day.’
8 “Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the assembly of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek all the commandments of the LORD your God so that you may possess this good land and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you forever.
9 ¶ “And you, my son, Solomon, qknow the God of your father and serve Him rwith a perfect heart and with a willing mind, for the sLORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. tIf you seek Him, He will be found by you. But if you forsake Him, He will ucast you off forever.
10 “Take heed now, vfor the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong and do it.”
11 ¶ Then David gave to Solomon his son the wplan for the porch of the temple, its buildings, its storehouses, its upper rooms, its inner rooms and the room for the mercy seat;
12 and the xplan for all that he had in his mind, for the courts of the house of the LORD and for all the chambers all around, yfor the treasury of the house of God and for the treasury of the dedicated things.
13 He gave plans also for the divisions of the priests and the zLevites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD.
14 He gave of gold by weight for the vessels of gold, for all instruments of all manner of service, silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service;
15 even the weight for the acandlesticks of gold and for their lamps of gold, by weight for every candlestick, and for its lamps; and for the candlesticks of silver by weight, both for the candlestick and also for its lamps, according to the use of every candlestick.
16 And by weight he gave gold for the tables of showbread, for every btable and likewise silver for the tables of silver.
17 Also he gave pure gold for the fleshhooks and the bowls and the cups. And for the golden basins he gave gold by weight for every basin, and likewise silver by weight for every basin of silver.
18 And he gave for the caltar of incense refined gold by weight, and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the dcherubim that spread out their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
19 “All this,” David said, e“the LORD made me understand in writing by His hand on me, even all the works of this pattern.”
20 ¶ And David said to Solomon his son, f“Be strong and of good courage, and do it. Do not fear, nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, will be with you. gHe will not fail you, nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
21 “And behold, the hdivisions of the priests and the Levites, even they will be with you for all the service of the house of God. And there will be with you for all kinds of workmanship ievery willing skillful man for any kinds of service. Also the princes and all the people will be wholly at your command.”

1 ¶ Furthermore, David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has achosen, is still byoung and tender, and the work is great, for the palace is not for man but for the LORD God.
2 “Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the bronze for things of bronze, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; conyx stones and stones to be set, glistening stones, and of different colors, and all kinds of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.
3 “Furthermore, in my delight in the house of my God, the treasure I have of gold and silver I give to the house of my God over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,
4 “3,000 talents of gold, of the gold of dOphir, and 7,000 talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings;
5 “the gold for things of gold and the silver for things of silver, and for all kinds of work to be made by the hands of craftsmen. And who then is ewilling to consecrate his service this day to the LORD?”
6 ¶ Then the fchief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the grulers of the king’s work, hoffered willingly.
7 And they gave for the service of the house of God of gold 5,000 talents and 10,000 darics of gold, and 10,000 talents of silver, and 18,000 talents of bronze, and 100,000 talents of iron.
8 And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD by the hand of iJehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced for what they offered willingly, because with a whole heart they joffered willingly to the LORD. And David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
10 ¶ Therefore, David blessed the LORD before all the assembly. And David said, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.
11 k“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty. For all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head above all.
12 l“Both riches and honor come from You. And You reign over all. And in Your hand is power and might. And in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
13 ¶ “Now therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name.
14 “But who am I, and what are my people that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come from You and from Your hand we have given to You.
15 “For mwe are aliens before You, and sojourners, as were all our fathers. nOur days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.
16 ¶ “O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build You a house for Your holy name comes from Your hand and is all Your own.
17 “I know also, my God, that You otry the heart and phave pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. And now I have seen with joy Your people who are present here to offer willingly to You.
18 “O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac and of Israel, our fathers preserve this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of Your people and prepare their heart toward You.
19 “And qgive to Solomon my son a whole heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies and Your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace for which rI have made provision.”
20 And David said to all the assembly, “Now bless the LORD your God.” And all the assembly blessed the LORD God of their fathers. And they bowed down their heads and did homage to the LORD and the king.
21 ¶ And on the next day they made sacrifices to the LORD and offered burnt offerings to the LORD, 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams and 1,000 lambs, with their drink offerings and ssacrifices in abundance for all Israel.
22 And they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time. And they tanointed him to the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.
23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father. And he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
24 And all the princes and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, usubmitted themselves to Solomon the king.
25 And the LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel. And He vbestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
26 ¶ Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
